Located on Otter Point Creek, this 600+ acre portion of the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve was developed for research, technical workshops and confernences, cultural history presentations and seminars. Public programs include canoeing, nature hikes, and children’s activities. It is open to the public every Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sundays from noon to 5pm for visitors to browse the exhibits and hike the nature trails.

Located on approximately 60 acres bordering Deer Creek, this facility offers a variety of outdoor adventure activities including hiking, canoeing and bird watching. The center also conducts school programs, camps and adult education. A meeting facility is available. The nature center is located in the historic mill and available for guided tours.

Gunpowder Falls State Park features numerous scenic areas on 18,000 acres in the Gunpowder River Valley, which includes both Baltimore & Harford Counties. The park features over 100 miles of trails, trout streams and the historic village of Jerusalem and 18 century grist mill company town. Other park areas include a multi-use rail trail, swimming beach, picnic area, and marina. Guided trips with local outfitters are available for flatwater and moving water kayaking, canoeing, fly-fishing, for trout, bass fishing, catamaran sailing, windsurfing and natural history walks.

Take a quiet stroll along the bayside boardwalk called the Promenade or along pristine wooded trails and sidewalks that meander the banks of the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. Our trails offer a variety of choices to fancy any level of fitness. Major trailheads are located at the North Park, Rodgers Tavern Conowingo Dam and in Susquehanna State Park.

The MA & PA Heritage Trail

The MA & PA Heritage Trail is a mostly-shaded walking, running and bicycle trail that closely follows the former Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad corridor. The trail is composed of two segments, located in Bel Air (1.9 miles) and Forest Hill (1.7 miles), and provides views of a variety of sites including an active marsh, mature woods and well-tended suburban gardens. Supporters are currently working toward the eventual connection and extension of both trails. The Bel Air trailheads are located near Williams and Ellendale Streets and on N. Tollgate Road near the Harford County Equestrian Center. The Forest Hill trailheads are located in Friends Park (Jarrettsville Road) and Melrose Lane off Bynum Road. Interpretive signs along both trails provide facts about the history and natural surroundings. Accessible parking is available at all four trailheads.

This day-use park is located on MD 24, eight miles north of Bel Air, and is situated on 850 acres bordering Deer Creek. A popular feature of the park is the throne-like rock formation called the King and Queen Seats where, according to legend, Indian Chieftains once sat in tribal council. Rock climbing, picnicking, hiking, tubing, wading canoeing, fishing, seasonal bow hunting, photography opportunities are available. The Falling Branch area of Rocks State Park is located about 5 miles north of the main park of the park off MD 24. The scenic,17 foot free-falling waterfall is the second highest vertical falls in Maryland.

Located along the Susquehanna River valley with its heavy forest cover and massive rock outcroppings, Susquehanna State Park offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities as well as historical significance. The park is home to some of the most popular mountain biking trails in Maryland and the river itself beacons fishermen and boaters alike. Susquehanna State Park also contains a very family friendly campground with traditional campsites and cabins. History buffs will be drawn to the restored Rock Run Historical Area with its working grist mill, the Archer Mansion, Jersey Toll House and the remains of the Susquehanna Tidewater Canal. The river offers excellent fishing opportunities, including pike, perch, and bass for shoreline anglers or boating anglers who launch from the Lapidum Boat Ramp.
