"Big Sit" Bird Count

Family Canoe Trips
Eden Mill Nature Center

Reservations are now being taken for Eden Mill Nature Center’s Family Canoe Trips! These trips help acquaint the paddlers with the natural surroundings on Deer Creek. Exploration of the environment, both the land and the water, is enhanced by the use of canoes to travel along Deer Creek. During these excursions, environmental education and interpretation are provided by the naturalist accompanying the group. Basic paddling instruction is provided before the trip. Canoes, paddles, and personal floatation devices (lifejackets) are provided. All trips originate and end at Eden Mill. Saturday morning trips begin at 8:15am and end at approx.11:00am. Thursday evening paddles begin at 5:45pm and end at approx. 8:30pm. Our season begins May 2nd and runs through September 28th, 2013. The cost is $5.00 per person for members and $8.00 per person for non-members.

Become a part of the volunteer team of invasive plant removers and native plant restorers. Learn why non-native invasive plants are a threat to our ecosystem, how to identify problem plants, and removal and restoration strategies. Wear sturdy shoes, long sleeves, and work gloves for field work in the Reserve each meeting date. Participants receive an “Invasinators” T shirt after attending two work days. This program is for ages 14 to adult

7th Annual Secret Garden Tour of Havre de Grace. At 10 am there will be a free guided walk of the North Park Loop Trail. (Meet at the left of the Lock House grounds.) A Garden Mart will be open from 10 am to 6 pm with plants, nature inspired vendors and food vendors. Take a tour of the private gardens in Havre de Grace from 12 pm to 5 pm. Pick up tickets at Kroh's Nersery (Aberdeen), Amanda's Florist (Havre de Grace), The Country Garden Center, Havre de Grace Visitor Center and the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum. All proceeds benefit the educational programs of the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum. Raffles, and door prizes too!

Nature Storybook Art allows children to become more aware of book illustration by experiencing hands-on techniques as part of easy art projects. Nature Storybook Art invites children to explore art activities with materials readily available in most homes and schools. The wide variety of activities require no prior expertise, and are equally appropriate for ages 5 to 10 years. Each activity builds new awareness about books, illustrators, and their art techniques. Each illustrator is paired with a book, and presented to the child artist for an art activity of creativue. Children will see a relationship of book illustrations to their own art explorations. Art techniques include: Drawing, Painting, Collage, Crafting/Constructing.

Creek Snorkeling

Creek snorkeling sounds like a strange idea. But the underwater world of our rivers and streams is amazing! Snorkeling is one of the most powerful experiences we can have in our rivers and streams and it reveals the unexpectedly beautiful sights of our freshwater environments. Join underwater naturalist Keith Williams as we explore the underwater world of Deer Creek. We can expect to see a variety of fish and incredible underwater stream scapes. Wear clothes that can get wet and shoes that will stay securely on feet in the river. Bring plenty of drinking water. We’ll provide the snorkeling gear.
